About the Artist

Sophie Linden is an oil painter and jewelry maker, born in Farmington Hills, MI in 1999, currently living in Detroit, Michigan. She studied oil painting at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, at SACI College of Art & Design in Florence, Italy, and graduated from University of Michigan’s Stamps School of Art and Design in 2021, where she earned her BFA and a minor in Art History. 

Inspired by the world and the connection between all living things, Linden’s paintings are heavily influenced by patterns, synchronicity and energy flow. Initially trained in classical oil painting techniques, Linden’s paintings are representational with abstract elements. Ranging from depictions of the textures in organic surfaces to more conceptual compositions, her paintings explore visual rhythm in many forms. Her experience of synesthesia is a significant recurring theme in her paintings, displayed through color symbolism. Linden invites viewers into her subjective, psychological experience of the world around her through painting intuitively curated arrangements of objects and images.

Her childhood spent at summer camp informed a major aspect of Linden’s practice, not only reinforcing her adoration for nature, but also introducing her to the medium of beads and jewelry making. Her jewelry consists of pieces fashioned with organic materials including pearls, shells and semi-precious stone.
