About the Artist
Inspired by the connection between all living things, Linden’s work is heavily influenced by natural patterns. Oscillating between oil painting and beaded jewelry, her art practice has evolved to explore beads as her primary muse. She fashions jewelry from a breadth of semi-precious stone, shells, and an assortment of ceramic and glass beads. Her paintings reflect her adoration for visual rhythm as she explores the different textures of various bead surfaces. In her newest body of work, Linden invites viewers into her subjective, psychological experience of the world around her through symbolic arrangements of beads and string.
Sophie Linden is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Detroit, Michigan. Both an oil painter and a jeweler, Linden centers glass beads and semi-precious stones as her main material. She studied oil painting at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, and graduated from University of Michigan’s Stamps School of Art and Design in 2021, where she earned her BFA and a minor in Art History.
